From Casa il Pozzo it is a 30-45 min stroll, (5 min drive) alongside vineyards and olive groves and with beautiful views, into San Gimignano. There you see the towers, have award-winning gelato, browse the lovely shops or visit the many museums and art galleries. Why not spend your summer evenings listening to the open-air concerts that take place every weekend in summer? Casa il Pozzo is on the Strada dei Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a quiet road with lined with vineyards, explore the foods and wines of Tuscany with a wine tasting or cookery course while you stay. Or walk, cycle or ride through the countryside looking out for the deer, eagles and squirrels that frequent the area.

Ideally placed to explore Tuscany, Casa il Pozzo is only 30-40 minutes from the great cities of Florence and Siena while Pisa is just over one hour away. For a bit of luxury why not visit one of Tuscany’s spas where the natural hot water springs bubble to the surface? Day trips to the seaside are another easy option, either following the new motorway to Grosetto or trying the Coast at Livorno; either resort is about 1 ½ hours away.

San Gimignano is a UNESCO world heritage town. This unique medieval town is famous for its towers, clearly seen from our swimming pool. From the towers you can see for miles across the rolling tuscan countryside. The town provides plenty for all visitors, whether you want to explore the culture by visiting the museums and churches, explore the many boutique shops selling everything from leather goods and handmade ceramics to the excellent local wines and cheeses not forgetting the award-winning ice cream from Dondoli's Gelateria. The local area is excellent for walking  (the Francigena way goes through San Gimignano) and the rolling hills provide and excellent base for cycling or horseriding. While the area has many vineyards and olive groves it is also blessed with much untouched countryside such as the Castelvecchio nature reserve, great to walk and explore the wildlife.

Nearby are many other beautiful hilltop towns. The crystal-making town of Colle di val d'Elsa is only 10km away, or visit the pretty hilltop towns of Casole d'Elsa, or Monteriggioni. only 40 minutes away is the stunning city of Volterra, perched above cliffs you can see for miles. This is the place to visit if you want beautifully worked alabaster. The Chianti towns of Castellina in Chianti and Greve in Chianti are also short trips from Casa il Pozzo, ideal if you want to explore the wines of the region further.

The cities of Florence is a must-see whether you want to visit the artworks at the Uffizzi, the architecture of the Duomo or the leather shops of Santa Croce. From Casa il Pozzo Florence is only 40 minutes by car, or you can get the train or bus from Poggibonsi, taking about an hour. Siena is also close, again about 40 minutes drive away or buses run from San Gimignano. See the Campo and Siena's great cathedral, if you visit in July or August you can also watch horses race round the Campo in the Palio. Pisa is about 1 1/2 hour away from Casa il Pozzo
